Above you can see the beetle's dirt protection
system (which works quite well), developed by me ;)

[Notice the lights!]
When the throttle screw drops and you drive straight to a
concrete wall with full speed nothing more happens than a drive shaft is
broken and the front bumber takes a new "direction". The crash photos are
on the previous page.

About the Engines...

Field Baja Beetle's original engine was Kyosho's GS-11X (around
2,10ccm), which was later broken twice in Subaru. First time it
got too hot and connecting rod and piston were history and the
second time crankshaft was divided in two parts.
The reason why GS-11X was in my PureTen Alpha was that after
I had dialed Subaru's engine (Kyosho GX-12) in for about 4-5tanks
the crankshaft's tap, which is for connecting rod, snapped out.
That must have been quite rare since no one I know had ever heard
from such incident like mine.
Plus was that it got changed within warranty, however the
minus was that it took almost whole summer because of holidays.
Like that wasn't enough, the next step was on the track. Supposely
flywheel's nut was loose and so the flywheel got off with high
speed which broked the connecting rod. I got a new one recently
(almost Christmas 2000) and mounted it, waiting the next piece
to fall off.
Of course I wasn't the whole summer without an engine, I bought
an FORCE .15 engine (about 2.5ccm) at the end of the summer, which
had nig difficulties starting as a new. Mostly because of wrong
plug and adjustments. The engine was also so tight that I had
to start it for the first times with the glow plug a bit open.
Nowadays it starts quite easily, as well as GX-12 too, however
I still have to make final adjustments to both ones.
