What really is Valenssi? Valenssi is Finnsh word for valence, which has many meanings in chemistry. There are valence electrons, valence belts, valence can also mean ions electic charge or number of covalentic bonds. There is also Valenssi ry, which drives students rights by many different means. Valenssi ry has been since year 1966, so middle age draws near, but still it is quite youngish organization.

Valenssi organizes happenings, sells handouts and other useful chemistry equipment, improves deparments teaching methods and improves studying of chemistry by other means. Maybe most visible mode is still so called Koppi, Valenssis guild room. Koppi is safe heaven for every chemist in University of Oulu, you can get cup of coffee or tea and sympaty in there. Valenssi has also own magazine, tutorhouse and webpages.
